Lucca Biennale | Paper | Art | Design X Edition 2020: all competitions open

Finally online the two calls to participate at the international event dedicated to paper, programmed in Lucca from 2nd of August to the 27th September 2020.

Lucca, 26/06/2019 - Already online the two calls to participate at the X edition of LuBi, International Biennale of paper, the first event in the world that exhibits artworks realised with paper and cardboard, as well as the only one that exhibits monumental sculptures outdoor, realised with these materials.

The competition is themed FEAR AND DESIRE

Fear always played an important role: guiding us, as individuals, but also drawing mankind's history, at its full potential. Within fear, humans understand how to recognize their limits, choosing whether to challenge them or giving in to them. Sometimes fear compromises experience of new emotions, sometimes it becomes a survival instinct. Can fear be a synonym of preservation but also growth? Can it be a limit, but also a starting point for development? Can desire assist fear when it becomes a limit? Can desire become an excess that fear has to stop?

Desire is though necessary, and it embodies the fundamentals of inspiration. Desire is motivation, movement, search for pleasure. Even if with a generally positive sense, desire hides a dark side; desires- if real or induced – can reshape aspirations, perspectives, the future of men and contemporary society.

THE OUTDOOR COMPETITION

- Outdoor Call

The finalists have the occasion, during their residence of a one month duration, to create monumental sculptures (up to 6mx6m) in paper and cardboard. They will be exhibited in the main squares of the city for the whole Biennale’s duration and afterwards will enter the collection of permanent artworks scattered around the City. A cash prize of 1000 € is scheduled, and the costs of material and tools, logistic and assistants support will be covered.

THE INDOOR COMPETITION

- Indoor Call

The only principle to follow to be able to participate at the competition is the usage of paper. All proposals of every artistic language are accepted: from audio-visual to performance, from single artwork to interactive installation. The chosen artwork will be exhibited in historical locations for two months.
